Facilities to expand our services
In addition to compelling new exhibits, the History Education Center will host traveling exhibitions, special events, and classes. It will create a desirable destination for the general public, both tourists and the local population. The installation of basic facilities will allow year round utilization.
SIX BASIC COMPONENTS ARE PROPOSED:
- General History Exhibit Gallery - to showcase changing exhibits about many aspects of Westmoreland County and regional history. It will encourage partnerships with local history groups with specialized interests and provide them with a venue to exhibit portions of their collections.
- Multipurpose and Education Room - to present a full array of programs, classes and special events and provide a much-needed option for inclement weather activities.
- Archaeology Exhibit Gallery - to display significant portions of the one million artifacts recovered from Historic Hanna's Town - a veritable time capsule of frontier history.
- Calvin E. Pollins Memorial Library
- Edward H. Hahn Archives
- Historical Society Offices - to provide proper administrative space in a centralized location.
Campaign Funding Objectives
The Campaign to build a History Education Center provides opportunities for individuals, foundations, businesses, and organizations to support the important work of preserving the lessons of history through the varied experiences and contributions of Westmoreland County over the past 250+ years. Tax-deductible contributions may take the form of cash or pledges over a 1-3 year period.
All contributions will be acknowledged in WCHS published materials. In addition, donors of $2,000
or more will be recognized permanently on a special Campaign Wall of Honor at the History Education Center. Naming opportunities are available for gifts of $2,500 or more.
