Site Five – Jumonville Glen
|
|
Continuing a short
distance along SR 2021, you reach the entry to Jumonville Glen, a part of the
Fort Necessity National Park site. It
was here in 1754 that George Washington and his troops ambushed a party of French
and Indians and killed the commander, Ensign Joseph Coulon de
Jumonville. In fact, this small
engagement ignited the Great War for Empire, the first true world war. The glen today features a pleasant walking
trail with explanatory signs along the way. |
