Site Six – Dunbar’s Camp

Return to S.R. 2021
continuing north for about 2.0 miles.
On the right side of the road is an historical marker that refers to
Dunbar’s Camp. Col. Thomas Dunbar commanded
the rear detachment of Braddock’s army and was responsible for protecting
most of the army’s supplies and heavy artillery. This is as far as Dunbar advanced at the time of the Battle of
the Monongahela on July 9, 1755. The
remnants of Braddock’s shattered force regrouped here before retreating to
Fort Cumberland. |
