Turn right on Rte. 982 for 2.9 miles. Turn left on Keefer Road for 0.8 mile. After a stop sign, Keefer becomes the Prittstown Road. Continue for 0.1 mile to Rose Road and turn right. Follow Rose for 0.8 mile and turn left on Gimlet Hill Road for 0.3 mile. On your left is a farm that is believed to be the site of Braddock’s camp of July 1-2, 1755. The camp was know as the Camp Near Jacob’s Creek or sometimes as the Great Swamp Camp since the army had to build a corduroy road to advance over a marsh. To your right, you can see a reservoir. When Braddock’s army resumed their march on July 2nd, they proceeded on a path that is now submerged under the near end of the reservoir. Not far from here once stood an historical marker erected by Mrs. D. L. Nevill of Mount Pleasant. The sign was damaged and is now stored in a local township facility. The text of the marker is displayed to the right. |
