Nathanael Greene was born on August 7, 1742. He was a Major General in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was from Rhode Island and retired to Savannah, Georgia where he died in 1786. During the course of the Revolution, Greene became known as Washington's most dependable officer. Many places in the United States, including our county seat of Greensburg, have been named for him.
